We act globally too...
The Turtle Conservancy takes great pride in the efforts it undertakes to restore the habitats of the network of preserves around the globe. We decided to focus some of these efforts to restore the habitat of our own backyard. On a sunny Saturday morning last month, the neighbors of the Turtle Conservancy in Ojai came together to plant young live oak trees on the 25-acre East End Preserve.
This property was previously owned by Philip Pierpont whose family nearly 100 years ago planted walnut trees, and later citrus and avocados. It was purchased in 2020 by Eric Goode in conjunction with the Turtle Conservancy and with much help from the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy, they have restored the abandoned orchards to a native like oak and chaparral woodland with a seasonal stream creating a native riparian zone.
With the restoration of native flora, many species of fauna have returned, either passing through on seasonal migrations, or calling the End End Reserve home.
